A re-entry is a tournament feature that allows a player to enter the same tournament again after being eliminated, starting with a new full stack. Unlike a re-buy, re-entry usually means you are treated as a new tournament entry, and you typically must fully bust (lose all your chips) before you can use it.
Re-entry vs re-buy (main difference)
- Re-buy: you add chips without leaving the tournament (often possible even before busting).
- Re-entry: you bust out and then register again as a new entry.
Common re-entry formats
- 1 re-entry (one extra chance)
- 2 re-entries
- Unlimited re-entries (during the late registration period)
Why re-entry matters
Re-entry tournaments can build larger prize pools, but they also allow stronger or wealthier players more chances to survive early variance.
