RNG (Random Number Generator) in poker is an algorithm the main purpose of which is to create a sequence of numbers or symbols that can’t be predicted. The RNG ensures that all players are dealt a fair deal hand each and every game.
How the RNG works
It is well known, that in real casinos there is a role of a dealer who shuffles a deck of cards to ensure that all of them have an equal chance of being dealt and the game is fair.
In online poker, the situation is different: the cards are virtual, and so shuffling is done by a mathematical program known as the Random Number Generator (RNG). The generator creates bunches of random numbers that will determine the order of the cards in the deck and their distribution to the players.
There are 2 main groups of factors that influence on RNG algorithm:
- External. These include player mouse movement, sound card noise, clicks on different areas of the screen, etc.
- Internal. These include the actions of software algorithms installed by the poker room.
As a rule, poker rooms use two types of deck shuffling:
- The deck is constantly shuffled. In this case, each subsequent card that is dealt by the virtual dealer is unknown until the moment when it comes to the player or it is laid out on the table.
- At the start of the distribution, the algorithm already knows all the cards that will be dealt before the end of the draw.
The first option is considered the safest, as it introduces additional protection against hacking because the next table card is not known until the last moment.
Why the RNG algorithm is essential in your poker room
All the players dream of fair play conditions and want to ensure that the gameplay is completely unpredictable.
In order to achieve these goals, hosts of poker rooms should be confident in the safety of the software. It must generate a random value each time a community card needs to be revealed or starting hands are dealt to players.
RNG and player safety
In order to confirm the reliability and validity of the RNG, each poker room must receive a certificate from a specialised regulatory organization.
For our gaming software, we use ISAAC, a fast cryptographic random number generator. Truly random data is used as an initialization vector. Random data initialization is done periodically, which excludes any result prediction. In addition, our server software supports external hardware RNG. So by getting EvenBet’s iGaming product you can be sure of the transparency of the RNG procedure.
