What is Call Break?
Call Break is a thrilling trick-taking card game played among four players, where the main objective is to score a total of 300 points. Players engage in multiple sets of the game, earning points based on their performance in each round.
Players
- The game is played with 4 players
Deck
- Call Break utilizes standard 52 card deck.
- Spades are designated as the default trump suit.
- The cards’ value is based on their face value, ranking in a high to low order; Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
Dealing and Betting
- Once the first dealer is decided each of the 4 players is dealt with 13 cards.
- Before the game begins, each player should select the hand values based on their possible winning hands.
- The bids are numbers that represent the number of hands that a particular player bids to win. A player can bid between 1-13, with the lowest bid as 1 and the highest remains 13. Every player needs to make at least one bid.
- Once the 13 cards are distributed to the players, the first player to make a move is chosen randomly. The objective is to make minimum hands similar to the bid.
Gameplay
- The player to the dealer’s right is expected to lead the first hand. After that, the winner of each hand will lead the subsequent hands.
- Players have to play a card of the same suit that is being played during the current hand. In case they don’t have a card belonging to the suit that is played, they can use a trump card.
- You must play a higher value card than the cards that have already been played during the hand if you have one. If you don’t have a card with a higher value, you can play any card.
Rounds
- The game generally consists of five rounds, though variations exist, including those with 1, 2, or 4 rounds.
The game is extremely popular in South Asian countries, especially India and Nepal.
