Flop

Flop is the name of the first three community cards dealt face-up in Texas Hold’em and Omaha. The flop is revealed after the first betting round (preflop) is completed.

How the flop works

  • The dealer places three cards face-up in the middle of the table.
  • These cards are shared by all players (they’re not private).
  • A new betting round starts immediately after the flop is dealt.

Why the flop is important

The flop is often the most critical stage of the hand because it:

  • reveals your first real chance to hit a pair, draw, or strong combination
  • helps players decide whether to continue, bluff, or fold
  • dramatically changes the value of starting hands

In short: The flop is the moment poker action truly begins, as players start building their final hand.
